Fantastic welcome and stay.

A spontaneous stopover at Talybont for a reminiscence for my husband. We were welcomed by the landlord, Steve, he told us they had recently taken over, only 8 weeks prior.
We only stayed the one night before moving on but felt the need for this review. The bedroom was lovely and comfortable, the breakfast, Full Welsh for both of us – was one of the best my husband has ever had- high praise indeed.
The Usk Inn was the perfect choice for us and the new owners Steve & Sam clearly are the perfect hosts to bring this Inn back to it’s former glory as so friendly and hard-working.
Either for a drink, meal or a room give it a try as it is well worth it!

Fab staff fab place,

We arrived late, wet and bedraggled after a 50 mile bike ride. The owners looked after us brilliantly, re-opening the kitchen to make the best sunday dinner we have ever had when eating out, putting our wet clothes in a drying room for us, and really looking after us.

Great food, great Ale, great location.

We where passing through Talybont-on-Usk after a trip out in Brecon. We where looking for somewhere to eat and as it was past 2.30pm most places had stopped serving food until the evening. We spotted the sign for The Usk Inn stating that the served food all day, so we decided to give it a go and I’m very glad we did.

The bar is a classically designed “old Country Style Hotel’ bar with wood panelling throughout giving the impression that this was once a very expensive Hotel, now full of character, making it feel warm and cosy.

The welcome was also warm and friendly, 5 minutes chatting to the landlord left us feeling like we had known him for years! On ordering a pint of Ale from a Local Brewery he double checked it was OK as it was the first pint from a fresh barrel, not many Landlords bother to ask these days, and I’ve had a fair share of bad pints where its been sat in the lines all night, this one was fabulous.

We ordered food, I opted for the Chicken Madras and my partner had a Baguette as she wasn’t overly hungry, the food arrived promptly, but took enough time to have been made fresh. The Baguette turned out to be a meal in its self, with a large portion of chips making it great value for money.

The Madras was something else. by far the best Curry I’ve ever had in a pub, better than most Curry Houses to be honest, with large chunks of chicken and a thick sauce, great rice and a Nan, it was actually spicy, which is rare as most places make everything so bland to try and please everyone. If you like a decent curry then its a great choice.

What a Gem!

Where do I start? Amazing atmosphere and vibe in the Bar area, beer garden is great, food Is just as it says on the label, Great Home cooked food (Lasagna to die for, and strawberry Fluff cheesecake is Amazeballs!!) the new family that owns the place are very welcoming and friendly!
Good luck in your new venture, we will return πŸ™‚
